Priorities vs. Goals

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I wanted to start today off with a conversation, one about which of these things would be better; goals or priorities? Is there room in our lives for both of these things? If so, how? Well, let me take a chance to explain myself and where I stand on this conversation I am proposing.

A goal-oriented mindset is good, but the problem is that focusing only on those is a rather easy rookie mistake to make. Goals are nothing but things that we WANT to complete, and truly without a proper order and without Prioritizing those goals they float all around us and nothing will get done, eventually with us getting overwhelmed (as I did about 3 weeks ago) and causing a breakdown of our lives.

A Priority-Centric system I feel is the more mature option. As we go through life and start having a lot of little goals and thing that we want to complete, the goals on our “In” pile will get larger and higher than those in our “out” pile. Priorities will help bring everything into focus, more in the sense of a series of file folders in which all of the priorities can act as headers and the goals can then be organized within them in the best order, thus breaking them all down again into bite-sized chunks and making life a hell of a lot more digestible.

I used to have an issue with the people who said that “goals suck” and that we should instead focus on the prioritizing aspects, but that was because I did not understand that world. I do now, and I praise the hell out of it.

Give it a try for yourself!
